Alpargatas to close two factories in Argentina

11/01/2017
Reports from Argentina say casual footwear manufacturer Alpargatas is to close two factories there with the loss of around 70 jobs.

Alpargatas,  Brazilian group, makes product in Argentina for a number of brands, including Japanese sports brand Mizuno.

The company has told media in South America that policy changes in Argentina since President Mauricio Macri took office at the end of 2015 now make it much easier to import footwear. It said this has made shoes produced in Argentina less competitive.
