Polartec relaunches PolarFleece fabric
US-based textile group Polartec has announced the return of one of its most important fabrics, PolarFleece.

First developed in 1981, the circular knitted synthetic fleece had a significant impact on the outdoor apparel industry. Polartec said that although many companies have tried to copy it, they have “never matched the soft hand, quality knit and sheer versatility” of PolarFleece, which it said is warmer, lighter and more durable.

The company will pay homage to the original fabric with the release of the PolarFleece Pullover. It has been given a modern upgrade, designed to satisfy the needs of today’s consumers. It is made using a combination of Polartec’s Classic 200 Series Fleece fabric and its resilient, easy-moving Power Stretch material. The collar, pocket, waist and cuffs of the garment are reinforced with Polartec’s Hardface fabric, ensuring that it can be worn all-year round. The pullover can be customised and is made from 100% recycled materials, the company said.

“Polartec fleece is the product that started it all, and is still the premium standard,” said Gary Smith, Polartec CEO. “Re-launching the PolarFleece brand is an opportunity for us to bring consumers a customised full garment that is 100% made in America.”

Polartec offered visitors to the 2017 Outdoor Retailer Winter Show in Salt Lake City, US (January 10-12) the opportunity to design their own PolarFleece Pullover, which was made to order and sewn at the company’s stand.
