Cordura makes important fibre breakthrough

12/01/2017
The Cordura brand, owned by polymer fibre manufacturer Invista, has announced the creation of the strongest ever version of its nylon 6,6 fibre.

It came after an intensive two-year research and design process. The company believes the resulting high tenacity fibre, known as Invista T420HT, will “enhance the core strength” of Cordura fabrics.

“At Invista, an on-going dedication to innovation is in our DNA," said Anthony Green, global business director for the Cordura brand. “Our latest T420HT technology launch is one in a series of new qualifying Cordura brand fibre breakthroughs to come as we continue to push the boundaries of durable possibilities.”

The fibre will allow Cordura to create a new generation of durable, lightweight fabrics for multiple applications, including military uniforms, outdoor apparel and workwear. One such fabric, Cordura Nyco (nylon/cotton), is already undergoing a trial with a major international military organisation to test if it is suitable for use in next generation combat uniforms.

Performance clothing supplier Dickies is the first consumer brand to have adopted the new fibre, incorporating it into its Autumn 2017 workwear collection.
