16/03/2017
The goal of the group, which is to be known as the US Alpaca Fibre Council (USAFC), is to “assists US manufacturers in the production, promotion and marketability of US Alpaca fibre.”
It has been formed to bridge the gap between the expectations of manufacturers and the needs of the alpaca community through an “efficient communication infrastructure”.
It aims to educate growers of profitability, sustainability and harvest best practices, as well providing manufacturers with help of sourcing, pricing, quality assurance and market analysis. It believes the USAFC can become a tool to develop strategies related to technology, market access and quality.
The group is made up of artisan and commercial mills, agricultural co-operatives and alpaca industry experts. The founding organisations are: Alpaca Coalition of America (ACOA), Alpaca Fibre Cooperative of North America (AFCNA), Alpaca Owners Association. (AOA), Artisan Mill Network, New England Alpaca Fibre Pool (NEAFP), Natural Fibre Producers (NFP), Sorting, Grading, Classing (SGC), and Suri Network.
