Lenzing lays out eco credentials of new brand of viscose fibres

Austrian fibre manufacturer Lenzing has said a new brand of viscose fibres it will bring to market this autumn will have “the lowest environmental impact in the industry”.

Its claim centres on EcoVero branded viscose fibres, for which it is using sustainable wood sources, a production process with “significantly lower” emissions and water impact than conventional viscose, and “full supply chain transparency”, which includes identifying the fibres in the final product

Lenzing has said that textile consumption is expected to double between now and 2025 and that finding “more sustainable solutions with minimal eco-footprint” has become a priority for the industry.

The wood used in EcoVero production comes from sustainable forestry plantations that are certified by industry-leading associations such as FSC. The factories that Lenzing is using to produce the new brand of viscose fibres comply with the stringent guidelines of the European Union’s Eco Label standard and, in addition, the flagship viscose production site in Austria uses “a significant amount” of renewable bio-energy in the manufacturing process, the company said.
