Lenzing responds to industry demand for transparency

Austrian fibre manufacturer Lenzing used the recent Première Vision exhibition in Paris (September 19-21) to officially launch its new brand of eco-responsible and traceable viscose fibres, EcoVero.

The company first released information about the new fibre in May and it is now offered by a number of yarn and fabric producers.

The EcoVero fibres are made from wood, which Lenzing sources from sustainable forestry plantations that are certified by industry-leading associations such as FSC. The production process used to manufacture it has “significantly lower” emissions and water impact than conventional viscose.

Lenzing has explained that EcoVero also satisfies the increasing demand for greater traceability in the fashion industry from both brands and consumers. The fibres can be identified “long after the textile processing and conversion steps have been completed”, the company adds. This means retailers and brands are able to verify that their products use the fibres.
