Tencel demand leads to record quarter for Lenzing
16/05/2017
Revenue climbed 14.3% to €586.2 due to higher selling prices related to the Chinese New Year, the reduction of inventories and more favourable exchange rates.
“The first quarter of 2017 was the best in our company history,” said CEO Stefan Doboczky. “Assuming that fibre market conditions remain at current levels, we expect a substantial earnings improvement this year compared with 2016.”
The group opened sales offices in Turkey and Korea during the quarter, and 'broke ground' at the production site in Heiligenkreuz, Burgenland (Austria). As of mid-2018, customers will have an additional 25,000 tons of lyocell at their disposal.
Construction of the production facility for Tencel fibres in Mobile, Alabama (US), is under way and will be finished at the end of the first quarter of 2019. Lenzing is examining several sites in Asia for a further lyocell plant.
