Vaude will boost shoes’ bio-based content with Reverdia’s Biosuccinium
20/07/2017
Vaude said the bio-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) it has used in the toe caps and heel counters of the shoes in its Skarvan range contains Biosuccinium. The company said this is part of its attempt to offer consumers “a sustainable choice of trekking shoe”. The shoes are one component of the German brand’s summer 2018 collection.
Marcel Lubben, president of Reverdia. Said at the time of the announcement: “This is a very exciting step for us, as it clearly demonstrates how Biosuccinium-based polyurethanes can support brands in these markets to meet customer demand for truly sustainable products.”
Reverdia is a joint venture between materials sciences company DSM and starch producer Roquette Frères. It was set up in 2012. It now has a range of products specifically for the footwear industry such as soles for casual shoes (microcellular PU) and a sole plate (TPU) for football boots and other field sports. The bio-based content is as high as 60% in the case of the TPU.
