US funds garment-making training in Kenya

The US government is funding training for young people in Kenya who want to learn garment manufacturing skills.

Two manufacturers, Mombasa Apparel and Africa Apparel, are acting as training centres for young people in their local communities to learn sewing skills. The programme aims to help 2,000 young people enter the garment-making industry and boost Kenya’s ability to take advantage of the duty-free access to the US market that the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) affords it.
