The African Development (AdDB) has launched the first phase of a training project for entrepreneurs and startups in the textile, apparel and accessories sector in Africa.

The training programmes form part of the AfDB’s Fashionomics Africa initiative which aims to increase Africa’s participation in the global textile industry supply chain.

The inaugural phase of the project got underway on October 4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was targeted at the Ethiopian Fashion Designers Association (FDA) as well as at designers, fashion entrepreneurs and students attending The Hub of Africa Fashion Week, which took place in the city from October 5-8.

Further phases are planned for Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast.
