ACIMIT sees opportunities in Ethiopia

28/09/2017
The Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) has said that demand from textile companies in Ethiopia has “grown significantly” in recent years.

Italian exports of textile machinery to Ethiopia have increased by an average of 14% each year over the past five years, ACIMIT revealed. In the first five months of 2017 they reached €1 million, having reached €3 million last year.

In response to this increased demand, ACIMIT, in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency, has set up a programme to establish links between Italian machinery exporters and Ethiopian textile companies. This has included organising trade missions both to and from Ethiopia.

ACIMIT has also signed an agreement with the Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute to build a textile technology centre in the country.

A delegation of Italian textile machinery manufacturers will attend the forthcoming African Sourcing & Fashion Week (ASFW) in Addis Ababa (October 3-6).
