Italian machinery manufacturers eye opportunities in Ethiopia
11/01/2017
An increasing number of textile and garment manufacturers are turning to Ethiopia for production due to its flourishing economy, low labour costs and free-trade agreement with important Western markets. This is increasing the demand for new textile machinery, as the country seeks to update its technology.
The 2017 edition of ACITF will feature an Italian pavilion, where a number of Italian companies will showcase their machinery. Those that are expected to attend are: Carù, Corino, Fadis, Ferraro, Itema, Marzoli, Mei, Reggiani, Roj, Salvadè, Savio, Sicam and Simet.
Raffaella Carbelli, ACIMIT president, said she was confident that the Ethiopian market offers good opportunities for Italian textile machinery manufacturers. She added that sales in the country had increased “significantly” over the past five years. During the first nine months of 2016, only China and Turkey exported more textile machinery than Italy to Ethiopia, she revealed.
