Italian textile machinery sector “is in good health”

19/02/2018
Data compiled by the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) has shown that Italian textile machinery manufacturers saw their orders rise 29% year on year in the final quarter of 2017.

Orders from overseas increased 23%, while there was a jump of 72% in domestic orders compared to the same period of 2016.

The strong finish to the year meant total orders for 2017 were 18% higher than for the previous year. This was led by a 36% rise in domestic orders, which ACIMIT said “confirms the effectiveness of the government’s measures to support investments by Italian manufacturers”. Orders from overseas markets increased 16%.

Commenting on the results, ACIMIT president, Alessandro Zucchi, said: “The orders index for 2017 confirms that our sector is in good health, with a production trend that has been growing since 2015.”

He added: “The textile sector is currently constrained, more than ever before, to attentively look into the applications offered by Industry 4.0. Demand in the industry is evolving continuously, and the concept of time-to-market is taken to extremes, so that the required production processes must be just as fast and interconnected to meet the demands of end consumers. Nonetheless, it would have been difficult to imagine such a significant leverage effect from the 4.0 incentives.”
