Leadership leaves FESI weeks before general assembly

News of the resignations with immediate effect of both the president and secretary general of Brussels-based lobbying group the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) has come as a surprise. The organisation has lost its secretary general, Alberto Bichi, and its president, Luca Businaro, just weeks before its 2017 general assembly.

Alberto Bichi, who spent 17 years at FESI, has left “to pursue other roles within the political landscape of the European Union”.

Luca Businaro has said he wants to spend more time concentrating on his own business, Italian ski boot and cycling footwear and equipment manufacturer Novation. He had been president of FESI since 2011. He was re-elected to the position at the end of 2016, ostensibly until 2019.

Former FESI president and general counsel for adidas, Frank Dassler, has agreed to step in as acting president. Commenting on the changes, Mr Dassler said: “We will continue the work Luca started. FESI will move from being a reactive lobbying force to become a proactive, agenda-setting actor.”
