Growth in revenue and profit for rumoured Amazon partner

Taiwanese garment manufacturer Makalot Industrial has reported better-than-expected growth in pre-tax profit and sales for the period between April and June 2017.

Pre-tax profit for the quarter was just under $20 million, an improvement of 21.86% year on year. Sales were 12.15% higher at a little under $229 million.

The company, which manufactures apparel for Gap, Uniqlo, Target and Kohl’s Corp., has said it is optimistic for the rest of the year as it is entering the traditional peak season for apparel makers. It also revealed that it has secured orders from global brands through to the end of 2017.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Makalot and another Taiwanese company, Eclat Textile, have been recruited by online retailer Amazon to help in its mission to launch its own apparel brand. The reports said both companies have been making small quantities of products for Amazon as part of a trial.
