New Huntsman product will fight yellowing in polyamide fabrics

Huntsman Textile Effects has introduced what it calls “the industry’s best-performing protective agent against phenolic yellowing”. The product’s name is Stabilon NPY.

Huntsman’s Singapore-based team has said the product will help textile mills protect product quality and avoid recalls because it can help prevent yellowing during storage or transit of lingerie, swimwear, underwear and other polyamide garments in whites and pale shades.

It explained that pale and full white polyamide fabrics are prone to “unsightly yellowing” when they come into contact with the phenolic antioxidants that are frequently encountered during textile processing and commonly present in packaging materials. Stabilon NPY protective agents prevent this yellowing by blocking the free amino end-groups of polyamide fibres.

Global marketing manager of Huntsman Textile Effects, Lee Howarth, added: “Brands, retailers and mills now have an upgraded offering to conventional products in the market that prevent costly storage yellowing on high-performance polyamides. This new technology delivers superior protection at a previously unattainable cost-performance ratio, while also meeting stringent environmental standards.”
