A fresh start for FESI

Brussels-based lobbying group for sports goods manufacturers the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) held its 2017 general assembly at the end of November, just weeks after the sudden departure of secretary general, Alberto Bichi, and recently re-elected president, Luca Businaro.

At the meeting, the organisation confirmed the appointment of Frank Dassler of adidas as its new president. Mr Dassler, who stepped in as acting president on Mr Businaro’s departure, will hold the post for the next two years.

The general assembly also endorsed a new FESI management team, headed by Jérôme Pero as secretary general and Youri Mercier as deputy secretary general. Luca Boniolo, policy officer, and Naomi Bar, heading the communication department, will join the team next year.

After the meeting, Frank Dassler commented: “We are ready to drive FESI as a united force and voice of the sporting goods industry. We have ambitious plans and will embrace the new challenges and opportunities ahead.”

FESI said its priorities for the coming years will be to use sport and physical activity as a positive trigger for policy makers “to impact evolving consumer behaviours, foster sustainable growth, create skilled jobs, deter protectionism and advance social integration and wellbeing”.
