Lacoste to work jointly with Pentland on its shoe business

High-end French sports brand Lacoste is to set up a new joint venture to develop its shoe business, working with London based group Pentland. The two companies will each have a 50% share of the new venture.

Since 1991, Lacoste has been one of the brands for which Pentland has produced and distributed Lacoste shoes. This arrangement will continue in the UK market, but Lacoste will now take direct control of its footwear business in other major territories.

Pentland chief executive, Andy Long, said on making the announcement that the new set-up “demonstrates the strength of the relationship”.

For his part, Lacoste chief executive, Thierry Guibert, said the merger is in line with a strategic project the company launched in 2015 with the aim of promoting its prestige and “reinforcing the Lacoste style everywhere in the world”.
