The region is the country’s largest production centre for sports shoes and has more than 3,000 footwear companies. They are responsible for manufacturing 40% of China’s sports shoes and 20% of the world’s, according to Chinese news agency Xinhua.
According to the agency’s report, Jinjiang footwear makers are incorporating graphene powder into the soles of the shoes they are making, and mass production of them is already underway.
In December, UK-based technical sportswear brand inov-8 launched a running and fitness shoe that featured a graphene-enhanced outsole. It was developed alongside experts at the University of Manchester, where graphene was first isolated in 2004.
More information about inov-8’s graphene-enhanced footwear can be found in the January/February 2017 edition of WSA magazine, which is accessible here.
