C&A Foundation to fund five circular economy initiatives

The C&A Foundation has announced it will provide combined funding of €1.29 million to five initiatives in order to help them scale up their work helping to create a more circular apparel industry.

The organisation invited submissions for this programme at the end of 2017. At the time, it said it was seeking companies that have devised innovative ways to ‘bridge the gap’ in the implementation of circular business models in the clothing sector.

The five initiatives it has selected are:

Creative Circular Economy Business ModelsLondon Waste and Recycling Board and QSA Partners: A London-based initiative aiming to provide support to four retailers as they seek to develop circular business models;
The Circular Activation Project - Circle Economy: A European project seeking to break down operational barriers to circularity and build a circular innovation process;
Circular Leap Asia Programme - Forum for the Future: An initiative focusing on Asia which is working to develop new types of partnerships between upstream and downstream companies in the apparel sector;
Market Makers - World Resources Institute and WRAP: An initiative which aims to demonstrate the market demand for clothing reuse models for over 20 major apparel brands in the US, the UK and India;
Love Every Fibre of Your Being - MADE-BY and Global Action Plan: A project seeking to bring together British based retailers and young women to co-create business offering and brand messaging for circular business models, with a focus on improving the mental well-being of young women.

Announcing the chosen projects, Douwe Jan Joustra, head of circular transformation for the C&A Foundation, said: “We believe the circular fashion revolution will only happen when we implement circular business models. We are pleased to be supporting these five new partners. The critical practice-based insights they develop and share will bring the industry a significant step towards these new models, moving the discourse on circular fashion from words to action.”
