Austrian fibre group Lenzing has said it plans to invest more than €100 million in sustainable manufacturing technologies and production facilities by 2022.

A major part of this investment will focus on closed-loop production technologies for the expansion of sulphur recovery systems. A second thing it is targeting is improvements to effluent treatment units.

Lenzing also plans to implement more sustainable energy solutions. This will include reducing its greenhouse has emissions via the construction of a gas boiler at its viscose production facility in Nanjing, China.

Upon announcing these measures, Lenzing’s chief executive officer, Stefan Doboczky, said: “The textile and the nonwoven industries face fundamental challenges related to sustainability. Lenzing is passionate to take a leadership role in addressing this and making the world a better place. Our holistic approach to sustainability underpins this scope. The new eco-investment program is a major step forward in our ambitions.”
