BASF to invest $25 million in Belgian 3D printing technology provider

is expanding its cooperation with Belgian company Materialise, a specialist software developer that runs what it calls the largest 3D printing facility in the world at its headquarters in Leuven.
BASF has agreed to invest $25 million in Materialise and the two partners have said they will work together to improve materials and software for 3D printing technologies and bring them more rapidly to the market. Specifically, BASF will now be able to carry out more extensive trials of its materials on Materialise machines.
On making the announcement, Volker Hammes, managing director of BASF 3D Printing Solutions, described the Materialise infrastructure as “outstanding”.
For his part, Materialise chief executive, Fried Vancraen, said: “We are confident that this collaboration with a leading manufacturer of materials will help to accelerate the adoption of 3D-printing in existing vertical markets and create significant business opportunities in new markets.”
