FENC confirms high demand for recycled polyester

01/10/2018
More than 50% of all the polyester filament being produced by Taiwanese manufacturer Far Eastern New Century (FENC) is now recycled polyester. Dr Eric Huang, senior vice-president of the company’s filament division, confirmed the statistic at the Intertextile Shanghai exhibition at the end of September.

Dr Huang said that ocean plastic currently accounts for less than 10% of all of FENC’s recycled polyester. He explained that the source of the vast majority of the material is Taiwan’s effective plastic bottle recycling set-up; consumers recycle around 95% of all the plastic bottles used in Taiwan.

The FENC senior vice-president confirmed that demand for the company’s recycled polyester is higher than ever. He said 50% of the teams taking part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia were wearing shirts made using recycled material from FENC.
