FENC and Coca-Cola team up for chemical recycling of PET
Taiwanese textiles producer Far Eastern New Century (FENC) has developed a chemical recycling process of PET named TopGreen ChemCycle, which will be used by Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan (CCBJI) and which it describes as “breakthough” technology.

The process chemically converts used PET bottles and other polyester wastes (regardless of colours and printing inks) into rPTA (recycled purified terephthalic acid); rPTA can be used as one of the main raw materials of PET.

The groups say the chemically recycled PET resins' quality equals that of virgin PET resin.

FENC has invested in PET recycling for more than 30 years and the product is widely used by the sportswear industry.

It said: “FENC is fully committed to recycle PET both mechanically and chemically as one of the company’s sustainability efforts to create a better Earth."
