Textile industry ‘an example to Taiwanese economy’
17/10/2018
Speaking before assembled dignitaries and guests from international media organisations, Ms Wang said the hard work and dedication of companies within this sector are what guarantees that there are always innovative, high-tech products on display at the exhibition each year.
She added that the textile industry should serve as an example to the whole Taiwanese economy, demonstrating how important it is to build stage by stage to achieve sustained growth and success.
In a highly entertaining and enthusiastic speech, Douglas Hsu, president of Far Eastern New Century (FENC) and honourary chairman of the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), thanked Ms Huang for attending and praised the government for its support of the textile industry.
In an interesting change to previous editions, rather than cutting a ribbon the participants in the opening ceremony, which also included Cheng Tien-Chan, chairman of TTF, and Taiwanese champion tennis players Angel and Latisha Chan, placed their hands on pre-positioned pillars at the centre of the stage to officially light up the exhibition. It may be a trivial difference, but it seemed symbolic of the technological development of the Taiwanese textile industry and of the country overall.
After the opening press conference, the VIP delegation took part in a guide tour of the exhibition, visiting the booths of companies like Formosa Plastics Group, FENC, Shinkong, TexRay, New Wide Group, Eclat, Kingwhale and Jintex.
