New dyeing technology from Taiwan’s Eclat

26/11/2018
Taiwanese textile maker Eclat has partnered with the country’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop a new dyeing technology that it believes will allow for the creation of eco-friendly textiles for use in functional sportswear products.

The process uses supercritical carbon dioxide as a dyeing solvent instead of water. As well as reducing water consumption, it is also said to save energy as the products do not need to be dried.

Eclat expects the technology to be suitable for use on PET or blended elastic textiles.

Speaking at a media briefing, chairman, Hung Chen-hai said the company has already produced a small volume of textiles using the process and plans to invest more so it can start volume production, although Mr Hung gave no timetable for commercialisation of the technology. It has sent samples to some of its clients for inspection.
