Speaking about the demands of younger-generation consumers, Mr Gallesi said they are, increasingly, demanding high-performance garments for comfort, wellbeing and interactivity with electronic devices.
“At the same time,” he added, “issues such as the sustainability of the yarns, biodegradability, the use of recoverable raw materials and non-toxic dyestuffs are now fundamental elements of our consumers’ choices. Innovation that aims to improve fabric performance and sustainability is the core strategy on which Italian manufacturers should focus their resources if they are to remain competitive.”
Fulgar said in response that it has for some years now been developing yarns that will help manufacturers carry out this innovation.
?Examples it pointed to included Evo, a bio-based yarn derived from castor oil, Q-Nova, a fibre made from regenerated raw materials and Amni Soul Eco, a biodegradable polyamide.
