New Prym fasteners promise ‘significantly lower’ environmental footprint

Prym Group, a supplier of fasteners to activewear and other clothing and accessory brands, has launched a new collection called LIFE Certified fasteners that it says can “significantly lower” the environmental footprint of garments compared to conventional manufacturing processes.

LIFE, here, stands for Low Impact Fastener Ensemble. Prym will have the new products on display at  Première Vision Paris (February 12-14).

In the build-up to the event, Brian Moore, chief executive of the group’s fashion division, said: “The production of metal fasteners for apparel involves a broad spectrum of processes and finishes, including electroplating, chemical colouring and coating, all of which require a substantial amount of resources and materials. Our goal is to produce a wide range of finishes through more environmentally friendly processes, allowing customers to use Prym fasteners that contribute to their overall sustainability objectives.”

Using fewer harmful substances, fewer chemicals, the elimination of heavy metals, and less energy and water are key components of LIFE Certified.

Independent assessments have shown a water reduction of 65%, a reduction in the use of energy of 16%, of chemicals by 98%, and of hazardous waste by 85%.
