Sperry acknowledges its duty to the sea

13/03/2019
Boating-inspired shoe brand Sperry, part of the Wolverine World Wide group, has released a new footwear collection made from recovered ocean plastic, the latest initiative to come from its sustainability platform, ‘Look Good. Do Good’.

The spring 2019 collection, which features shoes for men, women and children, features material from US recycled yarn maker Bionic. These yarns are spun from plastic that has been recovered from marine and coastal environments.

They will be incorporated into a number of Sperry’s signature products, including the Authentic Original boat shoe, the Captain’s CVO, and the women’s Crest Vibe sneaker. All will be sold in eco-friendly boxes made from 100%-recycled paper material, and will only use vegetable-derived inks and water-based glue.

Announcing the launch of the Bionic collection, Sperry chief marketing officer, Kate Minner, said: “We are a brand born of the sea. It is our duty to get involved and protect the waterways that stretch across the globe and connect us all.”
