ISPO Shanghai to capitalise on China’s football boom
Organiser of the ISPO Shanghai event, Messe München, has said the next edition, which will take place in the Chinese city from July 5-7, will pay particular attention to China’s new-found love of football.

Quoting figures from data analytics firm Nielsen Sports, Messe München has said there are now more than 400 million sports fans in China’s major cities and that 31% of city dwellers between the ages of 16 and 59 call themselves football fans.

It said China will have 70,000 new football pitches before the end of next year and that a government programme is also driving investment in coaching, for example in dedicated soccer schools for girls and boys.

ISPO Shanghai will have a dedicated Football Activation Area, at which it will encourage representatives of overseas clubs and from Chinese football to engage with local fans and media. It will also host a Football Forum to encourage discussion. There will also be a networking dinner to provide opportunities for clubs to establish new contacts or build on existing ones.
