Unifi places “significant order” for new Oerlikon machine on debut
Swiss textile machinery manufacturer Oerlikon unveiled a new texturing machine, the eAFK Evo, at ITMA 2019 in Barcelona and immediately received “a significant order” from yarn producer Unifi.

Unifi worked with Oerlikon to develop a specially-designed eAFK Evo pilot machine and has been using it in production for the last eight months. The manufacturer of virgin and REPREVE-branded recycled polyester and polyamide yarns has now obtained exclusive rights to use the new machine in the Americas, saying that the new technology will allow it to operate at higher texturing speeds and develop new performance yarns.

“True innovation starts in the fibre,” said Unifi president, Tom Caudle, at the time of the announcement, “and the new eAFK Evo texturing machine will allow us to continue our history of manufacturing excellence and provide our customers with an expanded portfolio of performance products with broad market appeal.”

The machine has a 300-millimetre-long EvoCooler, which provides active cooling technology.
