All but one of the 100 rare trainers that were up for auction at New York’s Sotheby’s have been sold to a private collector for $850,000.

International entrepreneur Miles Spencer Nadal initially offered to buy the whole collection, which includes trainers by Nike, Air Jordan, Adidas and Yeezy.

All except the owner of the 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat 'Moon Shoe' (pictured) accepted the offer, and so that remains open for bidding on until July 23.

Mr Nadal plans to display the collection at his private museum, the Dare to Dream Automobile Museum in Toronto, Canada.

Nike’s Moon Shoe was designed by co-founder and Oregon University track coach Bill Bowerman. It was created for the 1972 Olympic Trials and is one of only 12 produced.
