Materials manufacturer Covestro successfully ran a competition called Future Cities 2019 at its Asia Pacific Innovation Centre in Shanghai with students from Tongji University. The competition ran from August 5-9.

Teams of students looked carefully at the way a number of aspects of life in Shanghai function at the moment and then set about building prototypes of their vision of a future city, using Covestro materials and applying Industry 4.0 principles to future homes.

Speaking at the end of the competition, the president of Covestro China, Holly Lei, said the company’s polymers will allow people to build “more comfortable, recyclable and resilient future cities”.

Covestro will now assess the different prototypes that the teams came up with and will invite the winning team to attend the K 2019 plastics event in Dusseldorf in October. They will also visit Covestro’s headquarters in Leverkusen.
