Textile industry representatives in Indonesia have said garment companies there will step up their exports to the US in the wake of the ongoing trade dispute with China.

In recent comments to the Nikkei Asian Review, the chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association, Ade Sudrajat, said industry representatives had visited Washington DC before the US government’s August announcement concerning additional tariffs on imports from China.

He said Indonesian textile and garment manufacturers had secured an agreement to receive higher volumes of US cotton in the months ahead and the right to export more finished garments back to the US.

Mr Sudrajat said: “Indonesia is expected to enjoy an increase in textile and garment exports to the US in the wake of the new tariffs.”
