Sustainability award for Sympatex

06/09/2019
Functional materials developer Sympatex has received ‘2019 Best For The World’ B Corp certification, in recognition of its environmental performance and sustainable business practices.

To receive B Corp certification, a company must score at least 80 points during an analysis that looks at the impact of its processes and business model on employees, society, the environment and customers.

Sympatex received the award for initiatives such as the wear2wear European industry partnership, which aims to develop production systems that allow used textile fibres to be recycled into new functional fabrics. It also earned points for ‘Guaranteed Green’, which it calls the first climate-neutral membrane, and for being co-developer of the ‘UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action’, whose vision is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Sympatex chief executive, Dr Rüdiger Fox, said: “This award not only honours our commitment to closing the textile loop in the apparel industry, together with all of our market partners, but serves as a testament to our approach and spurs us to continue to overcome all of the major hurdles to a sustainable functional textile industry.”

Sympatex received B Corp certification at the end of 2018, and a total of 1,000 B Corp certified companies in 44 countries were selected for the ‘2019 Best For The World List’.
