Uniqlo's first India store covers 35,000 square feet in New Delhi
Japanese retailer Uniqlo opened its first store in India on 4 October, taking a first step into what the company believes to be one of the world’s most important markets. The new store, located in Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, covers 35,000 square feet spread over three floors.
"Fast Retailing has long wished to open stores in India in view of the tremendous potential of such a large nation,” said Tadashi Yanai, Uniqlo founder and chairman, and president and CEO of Fast Retailing Group. “We began recruiting here at the end of last year, and have been impressed by the exceptional talent, ambition and diligence of the young people we encountered and welcomed aboard."
The interior design of the new location blends Indian and Japanese aesthetics, and Mr Yanai said the company plans to do the same with Uniqlo’s future collections. “In the years ahead, we aim to enhance lifestyles in India by offering more innovative apparel that draws on the nation's distinct culture and traditions. We wish to contribute to India's economic development in the process."
Uniqlo India said it will soon introduce two new locations in New Delhi NCR at DLF Avenue, Saket and DLF CyberHub.
