First Filipino-designed Vans to hit the shelves
After winning last year’s 2018 Vans Asia Custom Culture shoe-design competition with his “Along with the Gods” submission (pictured), Filipino local artist Nikko Pelaez will see his design hit the shelves later this week. Vans has said the limited-edition line is the brand’s first-ever Filipino-designed shoe.

On his Facebook page, Mr Pelaez thanked Vans Philippines and the people behind his success, and said to his followers: “Treat yourself guys”. He also said he’s waiting for information about location and price of the shoes.

When Mr Pelaez won the grand prize at last year’s competition, he beat out more than 10,000 design entries from 10 countries, including Australia, China, Thailand, Japan and Singapore. In addition to seeing his entry appear on actual shoes, Mr Pelaez was awarded the prize of $25,000.

This year’s edition of the same competition made the news recently when Vans decided to pull a controversial pro-Hong Kong protest design out of the running.
