Footwear brand Vans has redirected a supply of the canvas it uses for its shoes to make 250,000 reusable face masks, in a collaboration with workwear brand Hedley & Bennett.

It has also donated 40,000 Vans shoelaces to designer Michael Schmidt to  create medical face shields.
Each mask is made with two 18 inch shoelaces the shoelaces and so will help to make 20,000 units to be donated to health workers across the US.

The company has also donated 13,500 pairs of shoes to volunteers working in foodbanks.

Doug Palladini, brand president of Vans, said: “As the covid-19 situation continues to evolve, it is inspiring to see in times of crisis, the power of volunteering and those who are striving to help communities adjust and overcome struggles.”
