Cotton group launches competition for sustainable cotton ideas
18/12/2019
Submissions can fall under two categories: innovations for customised Better Cotton training to cotton farmers or innovations in reducing the time and cost of data collected for licensing processes.
Solutions may be based on a range of pathways and technologies, organisers say, such as machine learning, satellite-based analytics and image recognition, design thinking and behavioural nudges.
The challenge will run in three stages, ending on 31st May 2020, but the deadline to apply is 15th January 2020. The first stage invites participants to submit applications with their ideas and solutions; during the second round, a shortlist of participants will be invited to submit more detailed proposals. During the third stage, up to five participants will carry out rapid field trials to test their innovation.
Winners will receive a cash prize of up to $150,000 and the chance to scale their innovation with up to 2.2 million BCI farmers. Participants shortlisted in the second and third rounds will be provided targeted mentoring and support by the challenge organisers.
