Salewa range uses Polartec’s greener technologies

Salewa, an outdoor company whose sustainability-minded brand is intertwined with the nearby Dolomites mountain range, has released a range of pieces constructed with Polartec’s recycled insulation.

The partnership resulted in part with the creation of a new, more natural loft. While Salewa has previously used Polartec’s synthetic loft for its hoodies, the Northern Italy brand’s interest in using more natural materials led Polartec to produce a new version of High Loft that integrates merino wool

In the resulting fabric, layers of merino wool are connected to both sides of a synthetic core. The material, Polartec said, has all the features of the synthetic version but with a natural material better suited to the Salewa brand.

Salewa’s Pedroc Hybrid 2 men’s jacket and Pedroc Hybrid Wind jacket (pictured) use Alpha Active insulation, which is made from 100% recycled content and was originally engineered for the US Special Forces to who needed warmth and breathability in extreme temperatures.

Sustainability is a fundamental part of the Salewa’s brand. Its headquarters is said to have been the first building in Italy to receive the KlimaHaus Work & Life certification, with an organic garden that supplies restaurants, employees, and neighbours with fresh produce, and a solar roof that produces enough green energy to share with surrounding buildings.
