EOG group offering grants to get new audiences outside

It’s Great Out There Coalition, a non-profit launched by the European Outdoor Group (EOG), is offering a new round of grants for projects by non-profit organisations that encourage people to spend more time outdoors. Ten ‘micro-grants’ of €1,000 each will be awarded to the most compelling proposals.

The coalition launched the #itsgreatoutthere grants in 2017, but the programme has been adapted to better meet the needs brought on by covid-19. In this latest round. The grants support community-based projects typically developed to take new participants into the outdoors, often encouraging involvement from younger and more diverse groups.

Margo de Lange, It’s Great Out There Coalition policy officer said, “In recent months, people everywhere have gained a greater appreciation of the outdoors and an increased desire to explore the natural world once restrictions have lifted. We now have a golden opportunity to help more people to enjoy outdoor activities, but there are significant challenges that come with that.”

However, she adds, people planning to do so the first time often need help and advice, but non-profit organisations that usually provide such assistance have been affected by the pandemic.

Applications can be submitted at www.itsgreatoutthere.com/grant until midnight on August 16.
