EOG speaks out in support of Germany’s Supply Chain Act
Industry organisation the European Outdoor Group (EOG) has said it supports the measures the German government proposes to introduce in its new Supply Chain Act and has urged its member companies to be prepared for changes the act will bring in.
Several ministers in the German federal government are championing the act, saying that companies must not take advantage of weaker regulations on the environment and on workers’ rights in some lower-cost economies to make their products more cheaply.
The aim of the act is to force German companies with production operations overseas to make sure there are good working conditions for people across the whole supply chain and that production complies with high environmental standards too.
In a statement, the EOG said any business or association that opposes the Supply Chain Act will ultimately be doing themselves and their sector a disservice. “The legislation is now rapidly taking shape,” it said. “Associations or firms that endeavour to delay or block the Supply Chain Act will not only be seeking to prevent an improvement in environmental protections and the human rights circumstances for many workers in the supply chain, but they will also be sending a message to businesses that those issues can be ignored and will go away. That is wrong.”
