Under Armour makes early Black Friday announcement

In a press release that emphasised its stores would be closing for Thanksgiving Day, Under Armour has sent out the message it will be open for business on Friday, November 27th — widely known as Black Friday.

The early statement contrasts with the slew of press releases issued in recent years by a number of companies announcing closures or anti-consumerism measures enacted to rebrand what’s become known as the biggest shopping day of the year.

While the statement called the one-day closure a way to give “retail teammates a chance to pause and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before finishing out the year strong”, closures on the American holiday (always held the fourth Thursday of November) are not unusual.

The company said the decision applies to all of its 179 US retail locations, and that stores will reopen on the Friday in accordance with their respective mall hours.
