Adidas ‘ready’ to combat the elements
COLD.RDY, the final launch from adidas’ four weather-specific .RDY (pronounced: ready) apparel collections, became available to buy on October 16. Previously, the brand dropped RAIN.RDY, WIND.RDY and HEAT.RDY for SS20.
Designed for city and country trails alike, as opposed to just the track, the COLD.RDY collection is “inspired by” the functional versatility of military uniforms, according to Josephine Aberg, VP of design.
Featuring extended zippers (for ease of use when in motion, adidas says), frog mouth pockets (for access at speed) and collection-specific seam placement (for the increased flexibility allowed by streamlined layering), the brand intends for its COLD.RDY garments to help athletes “own the [harsh] elements”, in the “toughest conditions”. The range therefore includes products that insulate, as well as wick sweat from, the body.
Suggesting that the outdoors are now, more than ever, a “health and fitness sanctuary” for people, Ms Aberg also made sure to stress the impact of cold weather - “a major external factor” - on athletic performance.
