New wave: Prada x adidas Luna Rossa 21 sails out
The Prada x adidas Luna Rossa 21 collaboration launched today, December 9.
Made ultra-lightweight with a function first design, the shoes were primarily created with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team (founded in 1997) and its 2019 AC75 Luna Rossa full foiling monohull boat in mind.
The footwear’s upper has been crafted from high-performance, recycled Primegreen materials, while a hydrophobic E-TPU outer shell reportedly acts as a flexible, breathable and durable shield against water.
An ergonomically considered Eva tongue and suede interior saddle further hints at a sailing lifestyle and a perforated Boost midsole alongside the wraparound outsole provides the “lightweight and flexible benefits of adidas’ signature technology”.
Speed lacing has also been implemented in the design (the laces are narrower at the bottom to help with quickness, but wider at the top to aid in the prevention of untied knots).
A performance-focused edition will be worn by the sailing team in competitions, such as the America’s Cup, with a minimally branded lifestyle version released today for fashion consumers.
