26/10/2020

The Office for Social Responsibility of the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and Lenzing Group have jointly released Make Fashion Circular: Outlook for a New Textile Economy in China.

According to CNTAC, who produced the report, its findings represent the first attempt to systematically study the current situation, vision and opportunities of the circular economy transformation of China’s textile and apparel industry.

To achieve its vision of “green, circular and low-carbon" textile and apparel industry, the report makes five recommendations

  • Optimise raw material structures to reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources
  • Turn to textile design based on the principles of a circular economy
  • Further improve resource efficiency in production
  • Innovate business models and expand green consumption
  • Upgrade the quality and efficiency of textile waste recycling.

The report references technical feasibility, resource conservation and environmental protection as key “considerations” for the country’s circular economy going forward, as well as the need to “contribute Chinese solutions” to global circular fashion.
