Former Hermès CEO joins board of mycelium maker
MycoWorks owns Fine Mycelium, the biotechnology that harnesses mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus, found in mushroom roots) to grow a "made-to-order natural material".
Mr Thomas brings more than 30 years of luxury market leadership, having also held senior positions at Lancaster Group and Pernod Ricard.
He said: "The fashion and footwear industries' desire to add quality animal leather alternatives to their design process is decades old and the demand from consumers is ever-growing."
He joins directors Tjerk de Ruiter (independent), Anders Spohr (Novo Holdings), Kiersten Stead (DCVC Bio), and MycoWorks CEO Matt Scullin on the board.
Lululemon recently made a yoga mat with mycelium, supplied by Bolt Threads. Adidas has also expressed an interest in using the material in footwear.
