Blizzard jacket has exclusive use of Polartec’s recycled three-layer fabric
Outdoor brand Jack Wolfskin is to include the first fully recycled, three-layer Polartec Windbloc fabric in a new version of its men’s Blizzard jacket in the coming autumn-winter season.
The two companies, long-term partners, have worked on the project together and describe themselves as co-developers of the jacket.
Jack Wolfskin has been working with Polartec since before it was called Polartec. It was an early user of the fleece fabrics that Malden Mills invented in the early 1980s. The German brand’s first products using these fabrics came to market in 1988. Three years later, Malden Mills changed its name to Polartec.
It has been using Polartec fabrics with recycled content since 1999 in a range it calls its Recycling Collection, which it still makes today.
The three-layer recycled Windbloc fabric will feature exclusive in the new Blizzard jacket. The outer and inner layers are 100% recycled Polartec fabric and the filling in the sandwich is Jack Wolfskin’s Texapore Ecosphere membrane, which is also made entirely from recycled content.
Wearers will have high levels of wind protection, warmth, water repellency and breathability, the companies said on announcing the new jacket.
