Vietnam seeks ways to remedy covid-related production shortfalls
18/08/2021
Production in clothing and footwear factories has been impacted recently as businesses closed to prevent the spread, creating supply issues, reported local press.
Workers will eat and sleep at the factory in groups, only travelling within these groups and having minimal interaction. They could also travel in their own vehicles if they live in places with low infection rates, reported Vietnam Net News.
However, textiles and footwear manufacturer have said these models are costly and, instead, workers should be prioritised for vaccinations.
Phan Thanh Xuan, general secretary of the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso), said in addition to rising costs, businesses also face the instability of workers who have to live at the factory for a long period.
Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), Le Tien Truong, said the model should only be applied to enterprises in the textile and yarn sectors that have large factories and few workers.
