Oyster appeal for apparel start-up
A new clothing start-up from Taiwan, DYCteam, is the latest company to experiment with crushed oyster shells as an effective textile additive.
DYC, which stands for ‘Define Your Character’, said in recent comments to local media that it was experimenting with oyster shells in products for a collection called Re New.
It said the shells helped endow fabric with functionality including body-temperature regulation, odour-resistance and antimicrobial properties.
Previous brands to incorporate crushed oyster shells into clothing have included Mountain Khakis and wetsuit manufacturer Henderson.
